Who else is having a hard time adjusting to finding time for yourself?
THE STRUGGLE IS REAL….
Whether you have a newborn baby at home, just started a new job that takes up all of your time or find yourself on the go all day long, then this post was written to try to help you find a little bit of time doing something you love each day.
I will be the first to admit, my world was rocked when we brought home our precious baby girl. I was used to my normal everyday routine where I woke up at 4:30AM for my morning workout, got ready for work, worked my day job from 8-5, ran errands on my lunch break and then came home to cook dinner and relax or do blog work after work each day. Mixed in these days were fun shopping trips, baths, coffee stops, and the list goes on…. as soon as I got home from the hospital, my schedule no longer existed. And to keep my sanity, I knew I had to continue to make time in my day even if it’s 30 minutes to do something that I love and that clears my head. Luckily, we have a lot of help from our families and friends. Most of my days for the last 3 weeks have been spent at home, with little sleep and lots of baby feedings. When Scout goes down for a nap, which typically lasts between 2-3 hours, I make sure to spend that time doing something I love. Some days, if I am home alone with her, I will take a 30 minute Peloton Ride, do a fun 30 minute Cardio Dance Class on the Sculpt Society app or jump in the shower, do a conditioning deep cleanse on my hair and throw on a face mask. (I never knew how much a good shower and deep cleanse felt until last week when I realized I hadn’t washed my hair in 3 days). Yes- that really happened and is SOOOO unlike me!
On weekends and week days when my sisters or parents have 30 minutes of free time to help, I usually get them to sit at the house while Scout is sleeping and walk the dog for a quick 2-miler, run to the grocery store or just get out of the house for some free time to myself. Weekends have been great, Ryan and I take turns doing the feedings and getting out of the house. Today, he went to lunch with friends while I stayed at home and I went for a run while he stayed home. We have figured it out so we both are able to spend time doing things we enjoy. When our families have offered to help, we always take them up on it and typically run out together for an hour to spend time together and grab a cocktail or grab a quick bite to eat at one of our favorite restaurants.
THE GOAL: Make time for yourself each day!
I’ve had so many messages on Instagram asking, how do you do it ALL? And the answer is, I don’t! Somedays I am just dying to get out and go to my old workout classes for an hour or run to Target or Trader Joes or a coffee shop for a few hours and just chill. But these aren’t options anymore (at least for the next few months). But, I can say that I am sure to make time to do something I love each day! My advice is to make a list of at least 7 things you love to do (1 for each day of the week), and check one item off the list each day and always say yes when someone is willing to help come sit at the house so you can get out if you have a newborn at home.
BTW, this photo above was taken when Scout was 1 week old! Ryan stayed at home and watched her while I went down the street to meet my photographer for a quick shoot. I was literally home 28 minutes later. So, if I can do it, so can you!
